Welcome, everyone, to the very first blog of The Essential Desk! I am so glad you dropped in! As you may know from perusing my site, my name is Dorene Hartford and I am the “solopreneur” behind The Essential Desk. I spent many years working in a variety of capacities, mainly in the administrative realm, but I was also a college instructor for nearly 10 years, teaching both onsite and online, as well as a course developer. My main goal, however, was to find a path that I could pursue while working from home which is where I stumbled upon the virtual assistant industry.
The most important thing that I learned very early on in my research is that virtual assistance is, indeed, an industry – not a specific job role. When I first looked into virtual assistance and what that meant, I thought what many of you probably thought – that virtual assistants were basically administrative staff who worked remotely for themselves. While this may be true for some in the industry, virtual assistance is far more than that; in fact, virtual assistance can mean almost any role that you can think of that can be done remotely. For example, there are many assistants in the industry who are offering services such as bookkeeping, marketing, online events, research, web design and so many others. This is so incredibly exciting!
My plan for the future of this blog is to serve as a helpful resource to all other small business owners. Looking ahead, I hope to share various tools and resources that I find helpful, discuss trends in the industry, identify and discuss productivity solutions, share “tips and tricks” as well as many other things. I hope you will continue to “tune in” going forward.
Have a lovely day, everyone!
